Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

Can I derestrict my QMWheel V20 Cross?

Yes. With the derestrictable controller with the red motor plug (21A, 500W) your V20 Cross goes up to 45 km/h instead of 25 km/h. The plugs fit the original wiring exactly, so you can install it yourself. Riding derestricted is only allowed on private property.

How fast does a derestricted V20 Cross go?

With the derestrictable controller the V20 Cross reaches up to 45 km/h. As standard it is limited to 25 km/h pedal assist. Riding above 25 km/h is only allowed on private property, not on public roads.

How fast does the Ouxi GT2000 go when derestricted?

Derestricted, the GT2000 reaches up to 60 km/h, both on the throttle and on the pedal assist. Limited, it does 6 km/h on the throttle and 25 km/h on the pedal assist. The derestricted mode is intended for private property.

What does the kill switch on the GT2000 do?

The kill switch lets you switch between limited and derestricted riding yourself. It is included as standard, so there is nothing extra to order. Only switch it over on private property.

What does derestricting a fatbike cost?

A derestrictable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

Can I tune an Ouxi C80 Mini or QMWheel V20 Mini?

No. The Ouxi C80 Mini, C63 Mini and the QMWheel V20 Mini cannot be tuned. There is no tunable controller or tunable display for these models; they stay limited to 25 km/h. Do you want to tune after all? Then have a look at the Ouxi C80, V8 or GT2000 and the QMWheel V20 or V20 Pro.

This version has a 250 W motor with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. That makes the fatbike road-legal straight away: no licence plate, no helmet requirement and no insurance needed.

Version: Tunable
This version can be unlocked up to 50 km/h. Riding derestricted is only allowed on private property. On public roads the pedal assist stays limited to 25 km/h.

Ouxi V8 Ultra Max – Black: 1440 Wh for long rides with two of you

Two batteries of 48V 15Ah, 1440 Wh together: that is the starting point of this fatbike. With medium assistance you get about 120 km out of it. The black Ouxi V8 Ultra Max is therefore built for long distances and for anyone who often takes a passenger along. An extended saddle, footrests and a 150 kg maximum load make that easy.

Comfort and riding position

The bike has a high step-through and suits heights from 150 to 200 cm. The extended saddle and the footrests are there for your passenger; together you may weigh 150 kg. Suspension front and rear takes the sting out of cobbles and forest tracks. Honest about the weight: 40 kg, partly because of the two batteries; you would rather lift it with someone else.

Battery, display and charging

You click both batteries out of the frame and charge them indoors; they are full in 5 to 7 hours. Riding style, tyre pressure, temperature and terrain determine how far you get. The LCD display with a protective cover shows your speed and battery level. Locking is contactless via NFC and a built-in alarm is standard.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

The Tunable version unlocks up to 50 km/h. Tuned riding is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies. According to our product finder, a 250W motor goes with the red motor plug; check that before you order parts. Matching controllers and displays are in the tuning kit collection. More explanation is in tuning the Ouxi V8. A throttle that goes faster than 6 km/h without pedalling is not allowed on public roads.

Service, warranty and delivery

You get a 3 year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the batteries and moving parts. Ordered before 23:59, delivered tomorrow in the Netherlands. You choose delivery boxed, or assembled with adjusted brakes and checked batteries. Returns are allowed within 14 days, unused and in the original packaging. Delivery to Belgium and Germany is available.

The QMWheel V20 Pro has one battery of 720 Wh and gets about 60 km on average; the V8 Ultra Max doubles that. The V20 Pro is lighter at 34 kg and charges in 4 to 6 hours. Tuned it reaches 45 km/h with the red motor plug and 32 km/h with the black one, against 50 km/h here.

V8 Ultra Max versus Ouxi GT2000

The Ouxi GT2000 also has 1440 Wh, but in one battery of 48V 30Ah. It rolls on 24 inch wheels, weighs 34 kg and is meant for 1 person; on average it manages 80 km. Tuned it goes up to 60 km/h, with a killswitch and a throttle that stays limited to 6 km/h.

V8 Ultra Max versus Ouxi C80 Family Edition

The Ouxi C80 Family Edition is a family fatbike in one version, limited to 25 km/h; tuning up to 45 km/h runs via a separate controller or display. You choose the V8 Ultra Max limited or tunable right away and it has 1440 Wh against 720 Wh. Both run on a 250W motor with hydraulic disc brakes and the same warranty.

Frequently asked questions about the V8 Ultra Max

Do I need a driving licence or a helmet?

No. Limited to 25 km/h with a 250W motor, the bike counts as an ordinary e-bike: no driving licence, helmet, registration plate or insurance. That applies to the limited setting only.

How far do I get with two people?

The 120 km applies with medium assistance. With a passenger you ask more of the motor, so count on less. The spread of 90 to 150 km shows how much riding style matters.

Am I allowed on public roads when tuned?

No. Tuned riding is only allowed on private or enclosed property. On public roads the pedal assist stays limited to 25 km/h; above that, different legislation applies.

What is the warranty and what maintenance does the bike need?

On the frame you get a 3 year warranty, on the batteries and moving parts 1 year. Charging regularly and good maintenance extend the life of both batteries.
